Victor Vasarely

Celebrating Frieze and the world of Art Basel we turn to revered French - Hungarian artist leader of the optical art movement, Victor Vasarely. His work from 30s entitled ‘Zebra’, pictured, is still considered highly revolutionary today and he is credited with the  conceptualisation of a movement 'Op Art' that reached it's zenith in the 60's and 70's; exploring aesthetic ideas of abstract patterns and high contrast. Vasarely often worked in black and white, but it is hisexpert and original use of bright, vivacious colours combined with graphic design that Donata has turned to for the development of her new SS20 collection. She turns to riotous colour combinations-  bossy shades of bright green and pink, all intertwined in a glorious kaleidoscopic effect. For Summer the designer places prints at centre stage; hemlines are longer, fabrics lighter and waftier; happily we can now see the real Donata Davidoff woman emerging in all her glory.
